Solo Strolls is here to provide a friendly and reliable service, specialising in taking small to medium sized single dogs (or dogs from the same household) on enriching walks, or simply spending time with them in your home during the day, ensuring they receive the attention and care they deserve when you can't be with them.
Group walks are not always suitable for all dogs.
Your dog's well being and safety is our top priority.

Solo Strolls offers a 1:1 bespoke dog walking service. The benefit over other dog walking services that offer group walks is that walks can be tailored specifically to your dog's individual needs.
At Solo Strolls we understand that not all dogs are suited to group walks which is why we exist - to allow them to enjoy some fun and freedom when you're not home and unable to provide it. And to give you peace of mind that while you're away, your dog isn't bored or lonely, but happy and content.
We are also available to spend some time with your dog in your home during the day to provide them with companionship, whether a walk is needed or not.
A big inspiration for Solo Strolls is our border terrier, who doesn't enjoy the company of other dogs. We wouldn't change her one bit, and thanks to her, we truly understand how hard it can be to fulfil all the needs of a dog who isn't suited to walks with other dogs.
A group dog walk isn't always the best option for all dogs.
For many dogs, there is no greater fun than being on a walk with plenty of other dogs, for play and company.
But equally, for many dogs, a group walk isn't always fun. It can be stressful and overwhelming for a lot of dogs. It can have a negative impact on both well being and behaviour for some dogs.
Solo walks can be a huge benefit to:
- Older dogs: Many older dogs have lower exercise needs, require slower walks, quieter less busy walks, lots of opportunities to stop and sniff. If they're struggling with arthritis for example, as many older dogs do, they may benefit from a walk where they're not in danger of being bumped into or bowled over by exuberant dogs enjoying themselves.
- Reactive dogs: Many dogs dislike the company of other dogs. They prefer to enjoy walks alone with a human companion only.
- Introverted dogs: I believe dogs have their own individual personalities, and I'm certain that some dogs are naturally social and extroverted while others can be social but are quieter and prefer quiet walks. Group walks may not suit them.
- Puppies: Having a puppy in the family is fun but demanding! With the best intentions, it can be hard to find time to fulfil all of their needs. In terms of socialisation, as well as allowing them to experience the presence of a variety of other dogs, environmental exposure is vital. This means exposing them (safely and mindfully) to a variety of sights, sounds, smells, etc, that they will likely go on to experience in everyday life. Providing this careful exposure is vital in giving them the best chance of growing into a calm and confident dog, whatever the setting or scenario. Solo walks for a puppy can give them the chance to get some very important environmental experience with individual and careful supervision.
- Dogs recovering from illness/injury or with a disability: A solo walk can be vital for dogs in this category, allowing them to get out and about, getting some enrichment and busting the boredom - all while taking it slower, going at their pace, keeping them calm, catering to their individual needs.
- Dogs unable to go off lead: Whether that's down to unreliable recall, or another reason, solo walks are perfect as despite being on lead they can still get out and about for a change of scenery, stretch their legs, sniff and explore.
WITH REGRET SOLO STROLLS IS UNABLE TO TAKE LARGE, STRONG DOGS WHO PULL ON LEAD AND/OR ARE REACTIVE. In such a case, you could consider booking a session in one of the fantastic local secure dog walking fields where we would be happy to take them for some fun and freedom.
LARGER DOGS OF SOUND TEMPERAMENT AND GOOD LEAD WALKING WILL BE CONSIDERED AFTER A MEET AND GREET, AT SOLO STROLLS DISCRETION.
At Solo Strolls the two most important things are your dog's safety and their well being.
The top priority will be to ensure that your dog is happy, healthy and safe while in our care.
For this reason:
- We will keep your dog on lead to begin with. This can include a walk on a longer lead to give more freedom, perhaps a dropped long lead trailing, with your permission and if we feel it's safe and appropriate. We will never let your dog off lead without gaining your permission first.
- It's imperative that you provide safe, strong and well fitting equipment for walking. It must fit your dog well and be fit for purpose, sturdy and secure.
- We will always take extra care during hotter and colder weather conditions. In the event of judging the weather conditions to be unsafe and inappropriate for your dog to go on a walk, we will spend the time in your home/garden with your dog instead, giving them undivided attention, making sure that they're happy, safe and fulfilled.
If you feel that your dog would suit a Solo Strolls walk/dog sit, get in touch and we will happily discuss this further.
If we feel we would be a good fit for your dog, we will arrange a free, no obligation meet and greet.
We'll come to your home to meet you and your dog, and chat further about your and your dog's needs and see if we can help.
